Tara Adams, Sign Language Instructor
TARA MARIE began losing her hearing as a toddler. At age six she was diagnosed with progressive hearing loss and by the time she was in middle school, her hearing loss was profound. Enrolling in the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind changed her life: there, she found a community of kids just like her. Encouraged by their acceptance, she immediately pulled back her long hair, which previously had covered her hearing aids, into a ponytail. A passionate teacher was born. Tara is the founder of ASL Expressions and We Can Sign. She is an outspoken advocate of sign language not only for the Deaf, but also for individuals who struggle to communicate via spoken language. Her aim is to spread awareness of sign language as a communication tool that can meet a broad spectrum of communication needs. “Thank you to everyone who is learning sign language so you can connect with someone who has a hearing loss or difficulty communicating verbally. You are giving them an incredible gift.” -Tara Marie |
